Guitars, Working Out, Alcoholism & The Holidays

Hello I hope you all are all doing well.

First things first. I am seriously thinking about changing these post into podcast? Seems pretty easy to do & the stream of consciousness thing would probably make things easier to get across. Of course there is the whole pitfall of giving your unvarnished opinions on the fly…Anyway we will see. ;)

So of course I could not resist getting a guitar. I went to the ‘Magazine Street’ section of New Orleans. What better place to look for guitars? I found the most perfect old Kay guitar. It is so nice I cannot believe the shape it is in. I put together a set list and have been banging out songs occasionally. I put an ad on Craigslist and have a couple of auditions coming up.

The only thing I am worried about is the lifestyle that comes with playing music. It is so hard not to drink and get caught up in the party vibe. Unfortunately I am weak at times. I have been battling pretty hard to quit drinking, or at least be a lot more moderate about it. I am an intense person so I am usually either on or off. It is really hard for me to find middle ground. As I have gotten older it has become a little easier. In the end occasional binge drinking it is definitely unsustainable. Not something I can continue for health reasons alone in the long run. Even though I have led a pretty crazy lifestyle for a pretty long time. I guess my problem is I want to do it all. Unfortunately, there or only so many hours in the day. I went to my favorite haunt The Smiling Dog a couple of times this week. So I can do the moderation thing, but it isn’t hard to get carries away at times. Especially if the shots start flowing.

I have been making some strides with the health thing though. I still ride my stationary bike quite a bit. I started going to the fitness center at my apartment. Very recently I bout a Soloflex workout machine. I live on the second story of my apartments. The Soloflex was semi-easy to get upstairs because it is modular. BTW I did not pay anything close to the price listed it that link. I got it used. So far I have used it everyday. It is nice to get a little pump in the morning before heading out the door. It is a great way to start my day and it has done wonders for my mental attitude. I am hoping to trim up some and more importantly just feel healthier. Even better if I happen to grab drinks later or eat crappy at least I got a workout in.

I am still doing the vegan thing, for the most part. Incredibly I have impressed myself with how well I have stuck to my diet. I did some fried catfish at one place I went to. Definitely one of my weaknesses. It is funny because fried and fish are such an oxymoron when you think about healthy and bad for you food all at the same time. I also had a grilled Alligator Tail PoBoy. Once again, just a unique opportunity I could barely resist.

Speaking of food Thanksgiving is coming up. I actually live half the distance to my mother and daughter than I used to when I stayed in FL. Usually for Thanksgiving, unless flying, it just wasn’t time effective to try and get a visit in. It will be nice to see family this year. Staying here in LA I have had the opportunity to see my kid more over the last six months, than I did over the prior 2 years before that. It has been a real blessing.

I wish each and everyone of you a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

Even though we are in crazy times I still believe, even more than ever - WE HAVE SO MUCH TO STILL BE THANKFUL FOR. -
